Customization

Plan modifications.

Found a plan that's close but not quite right? Submit a structured modification request directly from the plan page and our team will review your change requirements.

How modifications work

Three steps to a customized plan.

Find a base plan

Browse the catalog and find a plan that's close to what you need. The Modifications Wizard is started from a specific plan page — it works with a selected plan, not as a general custom-design service.

Open the Modifications Wizard

On the plan's detail page, click Modify This Plan. The wizard opens pre-loaded with that plan's data. Describe the changes you need: room sizes, window placement, garage configuration, roof pitch, foundation type, and more.

Submit and await review

Submit your change-order request. The BuildingPlans.com team reviews your request and follows up with a quote and timeline. Modifications are not instant — this is a structured review process, not a real-time CAD editor.

What can be modified

Common modification requests.

  • Room dimension changes (expand or reduce bedroom, living, or garage sizes)
  • Window and door relocation or addition
  • Roof pitch adjustments
  • Foundation type changes (slab, crawl space, basement)
  • Garage size changes or addition of a garage
  • Exterior style adjustments (siding, trim, porch additions)
  • Master suite or bathroom layout changes
  • Adding or removing a bedroom

Not all plans support modification requests. Plan pages indicate whether modifications are available for a specific plan. If modifications are not available, the Modify This Plan button will not appear.

Ready to find a plan to modify?

Start by browsing the catalog. When you find a plan that's close to what you need, open the Modifications Wizard from that plan's page.

Modifications are not automated. Submitting a modification request does not guarantee a specific outcome, price, or timeline. All requests are reviewed individually by the BuildingPlans.com team. Final modified plans may require review by a licensed designer or structural engineer depending on the scope of changes and local permit requirements.
